The search has begun for the ‘Capital of Christmas’, with a campaign to find the UK’s most festive town or village.

Launched by, the biggest website for family days out in the UK, the campaign is calling for businesses, community groups, councils, tourist boards and members of the public to nominate the towns and villages they think deserve the festive accolade.

Nominations so far include Weston near Crewe, Rochester in Kent and Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, and the campaign is hoping to draw nominations from across Britain, including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

When it comes to nominations, it’s a case of the more the merrier, as Lisa O’Keeffe, Brand Manager at, explains: “With the festive season just around the corner, we wanted to find a way to recognise the towns and villages that really go the extra mile at Christmas, making it a truly magical time of year for the whole family. This campaign is about uncovering those hidden gems that have something really special to showcase, which is why we need your help to find them.

“From community projects and events, to boasting the most Christmas lights in the UK, we’re really excited to uncover the best of the festive season, by crowing one town or village as our ‘Capital of Christmas’ this year.”

Nominations will close on Friday 10th November 2017, with the top three towns and villages being crowned in December. To nominate your town or village, visit
