Yu Alderley Edge in Cheshire was voted one of 2016’s best Chinese restaurants by

The Legacy of Taste, the world-class grading system for Chinese cuisine.

Yu scooped the ultimate three-tier Pagoda trophy, bestowed to those restaurants demonstrating a groundbreaking Chinese dining experience, comparable on a global scale. Restaurant A.Wong in London’s Victoria also picked up a three-tier award for the first time. Yu is the only restaurant outside of London to have been granted the top tier accolade.

Now there are six three-tiered Pagoda restaurants in Great Britain, of which five are in London.

Supported by Tsingtao Beer and Cathay Pacific, the Legacy of Taste event took place at London’s Grand Imperial restaurant at The Grosvenor Hotel and also saw Marks and Spencer awarded Best Take Home Chinese Food Range.

Legacy of Taste judge and School of Wok founder, Jeremy Pang, said: “Both Yu and A.Wong demonstrated excellence in all areas of the judging process and are thoroughly deserving of the three-tiered Pagoda. Yu is flying the flag for Chinese eateries in the North.”

Victor Yu from Yu Alderley Edge says: “We’re over the moon to have won a three-tiered Pagoda. We’re the only Chinese restaurant in the village so with little direct competition here, it’s amazing to have been compared to the rest of the best in Britain. We hope this gives other Chinese restaurants in the north the confidence to put themselves forward next year.”

The Legacy of Taste judging panel consists of Michelin Star Chinese chefs, TV chefs, Chinese cookery authors and experts in the UK and Chinese food industry.

The Legacy of Taste website is home to an Eating Out Guide, which details the Pagoda award winning restaurants. The organisation also educates about eating Chinese food at home by offering a catalogue of easy-to-make recipes from award-winning chefs on its website.
